Bulletin 6 - 2020

Bulletin six published by the Tobacco and Health Studies Center of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Cetab / Ensp / Fiocruz). This edition is composed of an editorial signed by Vera Luiza da Costa e Silva, former head of the Secretary of the Framework Convention for Tobacco Control - WHO, in addition to containing the following texts: Observatory on tobacco industry strategies completes 4 years and launches section on Covid-19; Summary of STOP monitoring: tobacco industry responses to the Covid-19 pandemic and the radar section with the latest reports[1].

Bulletin five published by the Tobacco and Health Studies Center of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Cetab / Ensp / Fiocruz). This edition consists of an editorial signed by the FCTC / WHO Secretariat, in addition to the texts: global cigarette consumption in decline takes the tobacco agribusiness to the offensive; government creates working group to evaluate taxation on tobacco products and the Radar section with the latest reports [2].

Bulletin four published by the Center for Tobacco and Health Studies of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Cetab / Ensp / Fiocruz). This edition is composed by an editorial signed by João Peres and Moriti Neto, in addition to the texts: thesis on tobacco control is awarded first place by Capes; industry reinvents itself; Fiocruz at COP 8. It also presents the radar section, with the latest developments in the world of tobacco control[3].

Bulletin three published by the Center for Tobacco and Health Studies of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Cetab / Ensp / Fiocruz). This edition is composed by an editorial signed by Silvana Rubano Turci, researcher of Cetab, on the two years of the Observatory of Strategies of the Tobacco Industry in Brazil, in addition to the texts: "panel discussion electronic smoking devices"; "Fiocruz receives leader of Bloomberg Philanthropies"; "ethics, morals and access to information: an essential triad for the maintenance and monitoring of workers in institutions that promote tobacco control policy." Also presents the Radar section, with the latest developments in the world of tobacco control[4].

Bulletin two published by the Center for Tobacco and Health Studies of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Cetab / Ensp / Fiocruz). This edition is composed by an editorial signed by Francisco Paumgartten, head of the ENSP / Fiocruz toxicology laboratory, in addition to the texts: "The Federal Supreme Court postpones, once again, judgment of the Direct Unconstitutionality Action that questions Anvisa's normative competence", by Danielle Barata; "It is fundamental to monitor the steps of the industry", interview with Tibor Szilagyi; The new WHO Knowledge Center in Thailand fights interference from the tobacco industry. also presents the radar section, with the news of the world of tobacco control[5].

Bulletin One, published by the Center of Studies on Tobacco and Health of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Cetab / Ensp / Fiocruz). This edition is made up of an editorial signed by Silvana Rubano Turci, a Cetab researcher, in addition to the texts: "Brazil is the main supplier of the Paraguayan cigarette production complex", by Roberto Magno Iglesias, Consultant of the World Health Organization (WHO); "World No Tobacco Day 2017: an alert for development damage caused by tobacco production," WHO report for countries to implement the measures adopted by the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. Also presents the section Radar, with the novelties of the Tobacco control world[6].




Bulletin ZERO - 2017

Bulletin Zero, published by Center of Studies on Tobacco and Health of the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Cetab / Ensp / Fiocruz). This edition is composed of an editorial signed by Nísia Trindade Lima, President of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), in addition to the texts: "Health Sentinels", by Vera da Costa e Silva, Head of the Secretariat of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO); "Reduction of highly preventable deaths", by Tania Cavalcante, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Implementation of the Framework Convention (Conicq); "Importance of the Observatory on Tobacco Industry Strategies: A Year of Action," by Paula Jonhs, Executive Director of the TOBACCO Control Alliance (ACT). Also presents the section Radar, with the novelties of the Tobacco control world[7].

In this edition, the following points are presented: Fiocruz will house the newest WHO knowledge center; in an election year, Philip Morris aims to promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) actions in tobacco producing municipalities; partnerships with the tobacco industry conflict with public health interests; good news: Marvel and Netflix pledge to decrease cigarette display.[1].

In this edition, the following points are presented: proposal of the Ministry of Justice opposes the Framework Convention; Paraguay to Host Pre-Conference of Parties - COP9; representatives of the tobacco industry seek support from the Ministry of Agriculture; FDA wants new regulation for electronic cigarettes[4].

In this edition, the following points are presented: International Protocol to combat the illegal tobacco market will start operating; Even after the Supreme Court's decision, flavored cigarettes follow the sale; Cigarette maker suspected of defrauding approximately 16 million dollars in taxes and WTO confir ms the legality of plain packaging established in Australia[6].

In this edition, the following points are presented: Observatory on Tobacco Industry Strategies celebrates two years of industry monitoring; STF maintains prohibition of additives in tobacco products and guarantees Anvisa's legitimacy; Anvisa approves new rules for cigarette exposure at sales outlets; Sead's budget cut puts the tobacco diversification program at risk[7].

In this edition, the following subjects are presented: The World Health Organization (WHO) rejects the founding of Philip Morris International (PMI) to reduce smoking; Wife of the Minister of Health visits Philip Morris factory in Europe; Illegal advertising campaign of tobacco products on the Internet and São Paulo City Hall disregard request for a partnership break with the tobacco industry[8].

In this edition, the following subjects are presented: Tobacco industry lobby offers goods to São Paulo’s City Hall; FAO opposes Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and rewards Souza Cruz; Tobacco Bank asks the government to preserve tobacco in trade agreements signed by Brazil; Supreme Court postpones judgment on Anvisa's regulation regarding flavored cigarettes; Reports in Publich Health releases supplement on tobacco. [9].


Highlights 3 - august 2017

In this edition, the following subjects are presented: Federal Supreme Court (STF) judges National Sanitary Surveilance Agency’s (ANVISA) power in the regulation of flavored cigarettes; Resolution guides UN agencies to avoid interference from the tobacco industry; Souza Cruz questions frontal warning of cigarette packaging and Interstate Syndicate of the Tobacco Industry (Sinditabaco) opposes the theme of World No Tobacco Day 2017 [10].


Highlights 2 - july 2017

In this edition, the following subjects are presented: flavored cigarette registration grows 1,900% in four years; Industry’s pressure changes the Central Bank's resolution and diversification index of tobacco production; Heated cigarette; Numbers of smoking in Brazil: death, illness, price and tax policy. [11].

Brochure with topics considered prominent in order to promote debates and decision-making in the scope of tobacco control. In this edition, the following subjects are presented: one-year anniversary of the Observatory on Strategies of the Tobacco Industry; Seminar on WHO's anti-smoking treaty is held at Fiocruz; Dissemination of the Center of Studies on Tobacco and Health’s (Cetab) bulletin on actions to protect public policies against the interests of the tobacco industry, and World No Tobacco Day 2017 warns of the damage to development caused by tobacco production. [12].
